A safe, fun, educational social network for kids

Are you a parent? If so, you may be a bit uncomfortable with the idea of your children having a Facebook account. Is there a "magic" age when kids are mature enough to step into the world of social media? Whatever your thoughts on this, we can probably all agree that social media is here to stay in one form or another.

A colleague of mine forwarded me a press release about a new social network for children called Skid-e-kids. The site contains educational materials, math worksheets, videos, games, a blog page for parents, movie night, toys swap, and more.

Mickel Godwin, CEO of Skid-e-kids, says, "Our goal is to create a sense of familiarity coupled with ease of navigation so as to deliver to our kids their very own social network experience similar to that of Facebook, but within a safe, kid-focused environment."

With that said, I definitely need to look into this as an option for my children in the future.
