A product dental assistants should know about

Dental assistant Tija Hunter explains how SonicFill composite makes her job easier.

I have to tell you, when I find a product that makes my job easier, I want to share it with the world! So here it is — Kerr’s SonicFill hits the mark on several levels.

As an expanded functions assistant in the state of Missouri, I am qualified to place amalgams and composites for Class I, V, and VI restorations. Many times I work by myself when my team members are needed elsewhere. The SonicFill gives me greater control without the help of an assistant.

Through a patented handpiece that delivers “molecular sonic energy,” the composite is almost liquefied, which allows it to flow into the prep and ensure void-free restorations. The composite itself is a highly filled nanocomposite that offers unrivaled shrinkage, esthetics, and strength. It’s a bulk fill that can be cured up to 5 mm in depth in five seconds. That means no time wasted in layering composites. You talk about fast!

The sonic energy from this handpiece allows the filler particles to be distributed evenly, which makes for a smooth, pre-polished surface.

After filling the prep, the viscosity begins to change, and it’s in between a flow and regular composite. As the material firms up, it’s easy to work with. You’ll find there is no sticking and no pullback. You can sculpt and manipulate this material to create beautiful anatomy.

When I first saw this product, I begged my boss to get it. He said nope, he didn’t need it. So I did what I always do when I want something — I scheduled a lunch-and-learn. By the end of the lunch my boss was trying to steal the handpiece from our rep. We now have two and we couldn’t do without it. It’s fun, fast, easy, and it’s a great product!

If you haven’t seen Kerr’s SonicFill yet, then you need to. It’s one of those things that came along and I said to myself, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
