OSAP infection control education programs scheduled

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland—The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention will contribute to numerous continuing education programs in the coming months.

The courses are designed to keep patients and the dental team safe.

“Dental safety is serious business and OSAP is committed to providing world-class infection prevention and safety content,” said Therese Long, OSAP executive director.

"In the year ahead, OSAP will feature an expanding catalog of continuing education opportunities, including a basic training course on infection control; lectures on patient safety, 'green' infection control, how to provide safe access to oral health care; and, of course, our flagship annual symposium.”

Sept. 1, 2012 – Patient Safety and Dentistry – What Do We Need To Know?
FDI World Dental Federation Annual Conference, Hong Kong
Eve Cuny, MS, and Professor Nermin Yamalik continue to raise the bar on patient safety in oral health care by describing how to avoid and/or limit preventable adverse events. http://www.fdicongress.org/scientific_programme

Sept. 22, 2012 – Key Elements to Launching a Mobile Health Program
Mobile Health Clinics Forum – Pre-Forum Intensive Training Course, Charlotte, N.C.

Oct. 9 – How To Safely Deliver Oral Health Care Outside of a Traditional Dental Setting
Illinois Oral Health Conference “Preconference Program,” Springfield, Ill.
In an effort to increase access to oral health care, the traditional care delivery system is being unbundled to bring care to populations where they reside, go to school, or gather in community settings. Oct. 18-19, 2012 – The Impact of “Green” Dentistry on Infection Prevention
American Dental Assistants Association Annual Conference, San Francisco, Calif.
Mary Govoni, CDA, RDA, RDH, MBA, will describe how dental practices have many opportunities to lessen their impact on the environment by adopting environmentally friendly business strategies while considering how these decisions affect patient safety. Jan. 7-12, 2013 – Dental Infection Prevention & Control Course
San Antonio, Texas
This course is a foundation program for anyone who lectures on the topic or is responsible for infection prevention and safety program in oral health-care settings. Cosponsored by the U.S. Air Force and OSAP, the four-day comprehensive training course takes attendees through microbiology, infectious diseases, immunizations, surveillance, PPE, hand hygiene, disinfection and sterilization, instrument processing, management of occupational exposures, glove selection and performance, latex allergies, dental operatory and lab asepsis, mercury hygiene, dental unit waterline, dental product evaluation, patient safety, OSHA, HAZCOM, and program management. http://www.osap.org/?page=2013FedSvsCourse

June 13-15, 2013 – Cutting Edge Annual Infection Prevention & Safety Symposium
San Diego, California
