It’s been a rough weekend for two particular dentists, both of whom pleaded guilty of Medicaid fraud.
A dentist from Rutland, Vermont admitted to billing the government for fake procedures. Of the 23 charges filed against him, Dr. Peter Gray pleaded guilty to four of them on Friday – two felony fraud charges and two misdemeanor charges of false pretense. Gray was investigated in 2010 for billing phony procedures in an effort to bilk the Medicaid system. Gray has another case pending in criminal court regarding a charge that he took advantage of a female patient who was anesthetized and has been reprimanded in the past for illicit drug use. The Board of Dental Examiners revoked his license in 2007 for other reasons, but it was restored in 2008 on the condition that he undergo treatment and drug testing. Another dentist is facing charges of Medicaid fraud – this one from Idaho. Carl B. Holm was charged in August of committing several acts of fraud in the course of three years, beginning in 2007. A plea agreement has been reached in which Holm will plead guilty to one count of Medicaid fraud. The other five counts (four of Medicaid fraud and one of grand theft) will be dismissed.
