Dental Advocates Raise Half A Million Dollars for Children and Older Americans

CHICAGO — Oral Health America announces more than $550,000 in funds were raised at its 23rd Annual Gala and Benefit Feb. 20. More than 800 guests dined on gourmet dishes, danced, and mingled with dental industry thought leaders, and helped OHA raise money through sponsorships and auctions.

Founded in 1955, the Chicago-based non-profit organization connects communities with resources to increase access to dental care and oral health education for all Americans, especially the most vulnerable. This year marks the second consecutive year that more than half a million dollars was raised to support OHA’s programs and campaigns.

"We couldn't be more appreciative of our guests and sponsors who made this event possible," said OHA's Board Chair Margaret (Peggy) Cottrell. "Your support ensures that OHA will be able to connect even more communities to the resources they need to increase access to care for all Americans."

At the top of the evening, through the generosity of GC International and GC America, OHA recognized Donald "Mac" McKenzie with the Gala Tribute Award for his years of guidance and stewardship over the organization. Mac’s legend has fundamentally changed the way this nation’s children view the dangers of smokeless tobacco through his involvement with OHA’s NSTEP (National Spit Tobacco Education Program). A commemorative tribute booklet was compiled, known as the “Macbook,” and is available at oralhealthamerica.org/participate/gala. OHA also premiered history boards at the event to highlight the organization’s milestones, leading up to the 60th anniversary in 2015.

The gala would not have been possible without the support of many generous sponsors.
