Test shows self etch can hold weight of six autos

Test one of several independent studies documents iBond adhesive’s bond strength.
SOUTH BEND, Indiana—More than 30 years ago, a television commercial famously demonstrated the ability of a glue that held the weight of a construction worker when his hard hat was glued to a girder suspended high above the ground.
Today, that feat is similar to a recent test demonstrating the ability of iBOND Self Etch, which held the weight of six mid-sized automobiles. This light-curing, all-in-one adhesive is manufactured by Heraeus Kulzer, a leader in dental esthetics.

The primary function of a dental adhesive is to provide a stable bond between a composite and the tooth structure, thereby helping guarantee long-lasting restorations. iBOND Self Etch combines marginal sealing with straightforward handling while delivering bond strength to enamel and dentin. The adhesive strength documented by this test means that iBOND Self Etch can offer anchoring to secure bonded restorations against the forces of lateral chewing.

The bonding ability of iBOND Self Etch has also been examined in numerous in vitro studies.

One study documented its bonding performance in the dentin of deciduous teeth relative to other one-step systems while a second study verified its performance relative to the etch-and-rinse gold standard.

In a four-year study at a major university, a leading self-etch adhesive was unable to outperform iBOND Self Etch in retention, marginal integrity, marginal discoloration, anatomic form, caries, postoperative difficulties or periodontal health.

Another university study examined the marginal enamel and dentin quality of class II restorations performed with iBOND Self Etch and found very good initial and highly resistant marginal dentin adaptation.

Yet another study at another major university examined the clinical efficiency of iBOND Self Etch in class I and II restorations versus an established etch-and-rinse system. Its finding that iBOND Self Etch achieved a 100% retention rate in the final test after four years once again confirmed the enamel and dentin bonding strength of this adhesive.

“These independent studies impressively document what our loyal customers already know,” said Amanda Holland, Heraeus product manager.

“iBOND Self Etch provides dental professionals with unmatched convenience and efficiency, with absolutely no compromise in bond strength, retention or any other area relative to conventional etch-and-rinse systems.”

The seventh generation all-in-one adhesive iBOND Self Etch etchs, primes, bonds and desensitizes in one step. iBOND Self Etch is suitable for bonding direct, light-curing composite materials, as well as indirect restorations combined with a light-curing luting cement and for treating hypersensitive areas.
