WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2013--The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is pleased to announce the development of the first-ever ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service (ADEA DHCAS). The application service, similar to those services already available for dentistry, medicine, and many other health professions, provides applicants with a convenient way to apply to multiple dental hygiene programs, while promoting dental hygiene programs across the country. Dental hygienist is ranked #10 in the U.S. News & World Report’s “100 Best Jobs of 2013.”

The 12 best states for young dental hygienists

“We are proud to add ADEA DHCAS to our suite of application services, and to assist these students in their path to the dental hygiene profession," says Carolyn Booker, Rh.D., Senior Vice President for Educational Pathways at ADEA.

“ADEA wants to ensure that more students seeking dental hygiene education are accommodated in existing programs. According to ADEA survey data, there has been an overwhelming need to have this centralized application service for dental hygiene to better access national information and assist students throughout the application process.”

ADEA DHCAS simplifies the application process for prospective dental hygiene students by allowing applicants to send in one set of materials and information for multiple dental hygiene programs. It provides a secure, online platform for dental hygiene programs to access applicant information and track their progress, while providing customer service to those applicants via phone and email.

Applications will be accepted starting August 12, 2013 for the 2014-2015 academic year, but prospective students can currently research participating programs, including information on class size, prerequisite requirements, and contact information, through the ADEA DHCAS search engine.

“ADEA is committed to upholding and improving the already high quality of dental and allied dental education programs,” says ADEA President and CEO, Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H. “We are proud to add ADEA DHCAS to our suite of application services, and to assist these students in their path to the dental hygiene profession.”

The service is available for a small fee to all individuals applying to participating dental hygiene programs offered at the associates, baccalaureate, post baccalaureate, and graduate degree levels. Dental hygiene programs participate at no cost to them.
