It’s easy to make jokes about a Minnesota couple and their side-by-side businesses. Melinda Sandwick’s cakery shares a building with husband, Todd’s dental practice. It seems like a pretty good gig, no? She brings in all the passersby with a nose for sweets and then hands out free toothbrushes as a subtle reminder that a nagging sweet tooth, ought to receive proper care.Customers might as well make an appointment with Todd while they indulge. It’s a two way street, though. Todd also does some cross marketing for Melinda by keeping free cupcakes on the counter. He jokes that he has the “nicest smelling dental office in the state, if not the country.”
