New era for dental compliance and risk management

Aug. 25, 2014
The Institute for Dental Compliance and Risk Management is a new Jacksonville-based business dedicated to providing national certification for dental staff and leadership in order to promote proven compliance practices throughout dentistry.
Linda Harvey, a nationally recognized and licensed health-care risk management and compliance expert, announces the launch of the Institute for Dental Compliance and Risk Management. This new Jacksonville-based business is dedicated to providing national certification for dental staff and leadership in order to promote proven compliance practices throughout dentistry.

Harvey has seen dental practices increasingly come under fire from unannounced Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, Office of Civil Rights investigations related to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) violations, and patient complaints to dental boards. She believes strongly that all members of the dental team can be better prepared through compliance credentialing and certification in order to thrive under increasing regulatory scrutiny.

Harvey states, “Given evolving practice models and ever-changing complex regulations, dental practices need someone on staff who can knowledgeably function as a Compliance Officer or Coordinator.”

The Institute provides advanced compliance educational programs to meet this need. Unlike traditional continuing education courses, the Institute offers three levels of certification for dental professionals who seek to expand their knowledge and skills in the areas of OSHA, HIPAA, and Risk Management. Course work is designed as a self-paced independent study with credentialing exams coordinated by an independent third party.

The Institute’s mission is toadvance compliance proficiency throughout dentistry by (1) elevating regulatory knowledge and skills; (2) connecting like-minded professionals who want to network, share, and collaborate; and (3) inspiring dental professionals to become credentialed in regulatory compliance.
