Debacterol: A treatment for canker sores and minor oral abrasions

Debacterol, by Epien Medical Inc., is a liquid, topical, debriding agent. Debacterol is prescription-only and is used for the treatment of minor abrasions of the oral mucosa, as well as ulcerating oral mucosal lesions — often referred to ascanker sores, aphthous ulcers, or oral ulcers.

When debridement of damaged or necrotic tissues is necessary during dental procedures, the chemical and physical properties of Debacterol may help to alleviate patients’ pain and accelerate the healing process. According to the manufacturer, Debacterol “completely stops oral ulcer pain, seals damaged oral mucosal tissues, and forms a protective barrier after just one application,” allowing the lesion to be replaced by healthy tissue within three to five days.
