Curve Dental, a developer of cloud-based dental software, has selected DrFirst, a provider of e-medication management technology, to provide integrated electronic prescribing capabilities for both legend drugs and controlled substances to Curve Dental customers. When the integration is completed in early March, DrFirst will be available to the nearly 700 practices that currently use Curve Dental for cloud-based practice management.

“Our integration with DrFirst provides our customers with the ability to print or send any prescription in accordance with every state’s individual requirements,” said Ian Zipursky, president and COO of Curve Dental Inc. “With a number of important prescription deadlines looming this year, it was important for Curve Dental to choose a partner that has demonstrated an ability to stay on top of state legislation as well as provide a sleek, well-designed user interface that matches our own sense of style. With a few clicks of the mouse, our customers will be able to send prescriptions to any pharmacy in a secure and compliant manner. A Curve Dental mandate is to increase efficiencies in the dental practice and this partnership works toward that end goal.”

By integrating DrFirst’s eRx and electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) technologies, available to Curve Dental customers at an additional fee, Curve Dental is supporting dental professionals who recognize that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic. For New York customers, the integration will help them comply with New York’s Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing Law (I-STOP), which requires providers to electronically prescribe all legend drugs and controlled substances beginning on March 27, 2015.

“E-medication management is important for dentists, who frequently prescribe pain medications,” said G. Cameron Deemer, president of DrFirst. “Combining Curve Dental’s cloud-based EMR [electronic medical records] with our e-medication management platform supports New York dentists in complying with the state’s e-prescribing mandate and enables Curve Dentalto support providers in other states with the inherent patient safety benefits and workflow efficiencies of e-prescribing.”
