Nearly 400 women were nominated for the statewide honor. Nominees were asked to complete an application outlining their educational and career history, professional and community involvement, corporate and nonprofit board memberships, and mentoring experience. They were encouraged to submit letters of recommendation from those who are familiar with their accomplishments professionally, in the community, and through mentoring. A panel of judges comprised of business professionals and past Maryland’s Top 100 Women winners from throughout Maryland reviewed the applications and selected this year’s honorees.

“The 2015 Maryland’s Top 100 Women honorees inspire those around them by their actions, their words, and their deeds,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher. “They share an amazing talent for balancing many facets of their lives. They have achieved personal success, but they also contribute to bettering the communities in which they work and live. And they are active mentors of the younger generation of businesspeople. The Daily Record is pleased to honor them.”

In her letter of recommendation, OSAP Executive Director Therese Long said that Dr. Grant “not only exemplifies leadership, but she also is a passionate advocate of Maryland.” She pointed to Grant’s role as part of a team that mobilized and led the Deamonte Driver Dental Project as well as her involvement in helping to take Maryland from “worst to first” in the nation in providing basic dental services to low-income students. She also highlighted Grant’s many contributions to OSAP and said, “I remain impressed by her intelligence, organizational and presentation skills, leadership, strategic vision, and ethics.” Dr. Grant is on the OSAP board of directors and served as chairman of the board in 2012-2013. She has also been a speaker at the organization’s annual symposium.

Dr. Grant owned a dental practice in Baltimore City for more than 20 years and provided school-based public health services with the city’s health department for eight years. As a college student, her interest was in speech pathology and audiology. She received a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing from Boston University, a master’s in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Washington, and a doctor of dental surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. “My interest in dentistry evolved from my work as a speech and language pathologist,” she said.
