I attended Yankee Dental Congress in Boston last month, and as I had expected, it did not disappoint! As I walked through the exhibits, I stumbled upon some new products that are definitely worthy of checking out.

TheraCem by Bisco

If you love Bisco's TheraCal, or if you are seeking a fluoride- and calcium-releasing self-adhesive resin cement, look no further. TheraCem was launched into the marketplace in December 2016. It is a self-adhesive resin cement, which means that this cement requires no etching, priming, or bonding of prepared surfaces. It has the same adhesion-promoting monomer as Bisco's All-Bond Universal adhesive.

TheraCem can be used to cement metal crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays, porcelain or all-ceramic crowns, resin crowns, zirconia restorations, metal and nonmetal endodontic posts, implant-supported restorations, and orthodontic bands and brackets.

This cement is unique because it has excellent physical properties, is highly radiopaque, releases high amounts of fluoride and calcium, and has a quick rebound to an alkaline pH. Many self-adhesive and glass ionomer cements have a low pH after being mixed, but TheraCem’s pH will rapidly rise, which promotes greater formation of apatite, inhibition of bacterial growth, and neutralization of acidic byproducts caused by bacteria.

Crest Pro-HealthClean Mint toothpaste

This is a new formulation of Crest Pro-Health, intended to offer users an improved experience. It is formulated with stabilized stannous fluoride to help restore and promote gingival health and caries protection. Additional benefits include reduced plaque, sensitivity, acid erosion, staining, calculus formation, and halitosis.

Crest Pro-HealthClean Mint toothpaste is gentle. I have tried this toothpaste; it has a creamy consistency and it foams nicely. It also has a mild mint flavor, and it would be suitable for patients with sensitivity tissues or for patients who suffer from gingival sloughing. My teeth felt very clean and smooth after using this toothpaste. Despite being a new, gentle formulation, it still has all the benefits that Crest Pro-Healthoffers. I am glad that we have another Crest Pro-Health solution to address our patients' needs.
