Dental Codeology sequel combines humor with 'ROMA' manual

May 10, 2017
Patti DiGangi, RDH, releases the latest of her Dental Codeology manuals.

Patti DiGangi, RDH, BS, took a totally different approach when writing the latest book in her Dental Codeology Series.

She and co-author Dr. Benson Baty took a humorous approach in examining some of the observations, insights, and urban legends associated with patient communications, dental team interactions and clinical practice.

“You can’t make this stuff up,” says DiGangi. “I think everyone who has worked a few years in a dental office has a ROMA book in them!” ROMA stands for Results Oriented Management and Accountability.

The authors say the purpose of this book is to take a light-hearted view of dentistry while also challenging assumptions, questioning traditions, and looking at the evidence with some ethical lessons thrown in for good measure.

Some of the chapter topics are titled:

  • Patients Say the Darndest Things
  • Professionals Say the Darndest Things
  • Dental Education’s Darndest Things
  • Dentistry’s Darndest F-Words

“Everyone working in dentistry has their own observations, insights, and opinions,” DiGangi said. “We are planning to use a crowd-sourcing approach to gather some of the material for our next installment. Dental professionals will be provided opportunities to contribute on DentalCodeology.com and on our social media platforms.”

DiGangi is also the author of the recently-published book A Gingivitis Code Finally!—the fifth installment in the DentalCodeology series of bite-size books for busy dental professionals. She holds publishing and speaking licenses with the American Dental Association for Current Dental Terminology and SNODENT Diagnostic Coding, and recently authored a chapter in the American Dental Association’s CDT 2017 Companion titled, “D9000 – D9999 Adjunctive General Services.”

Dr. Baty has been on the staff of Tulsa Community College dental hygiene program for almost 25 years while maintaining a full-time general dentistry practice in Tulsa, OK, since 1988.
