Answer: A book, A Ted talk, a conference
Question: How to get a jump start on the new year?
How many times have I said: “When you least expect it, you will find the motivation or the opportunity you are seeking.” Well it happened to me again, and I want to share.
Those who know me are aware that I am a continual learner—always reaching out and seeking what more is out there. I am a member of Dental Trade Alliance, and once a year I attend the Women in Business Network with activities designed to foster networking, professional development, and business mentoring. This year I attended while struggling with some professional decisions and seeking confidence or support from my peers. Opening my mind and soaking up all of the energy that surrounded me was exactly what I needed to shift my mindset. I left the conference with the direction I needed and some information that I just have to share with you.

The guest speaker was Judi Holler (judiholler.com), and her presentation focused on helping us to understand our personal brand, build confidence, and manage our fears. She motivated me by talking about facing your fears and provided the audience with buttons of empowering statements such as “Fear Is My Homeboy” and “Be Unexpected.” She made the audience realize we all have fears. Some of us will back down from them, while others with tackle them head on. Others need support to say. “You can do this!” On this day, I needed that little push telling me, “I can do this!”
Judi made several book recommendations that I quickly wrote down. I have found many answers and lots of motivation in my reading time. So I was eager to hear what she found beneficial. First, she recommended my 2017 favorite, “You are a Bad Ass” by Jen Sincero, a book which will make you laugh while finding your greatness.
Secondly, she recommended “High Performance Habits” by Brendon Burchard. I had read about him in Success magazine and was contemplating getting this book. Wow! It is a must read, and I already have it on my bedside table with notes and yellow marks all through it. If you are in a slump, needing some pick-me-up motivation, or want to start 2018 out with a bang, these books could be your answer.
While attending the conference, I also had the opportunity to hear Mel Robbins speak. She continues to motivate me and delivers a message all of you can listen to on TedTalks. In her presentation, she assists us in finding our full potential. She has also written a book titled, “The 5 Second Rule” which inspires one on how to transform their life. By watching a five-minute Ted Talk you can learn the power of a five-second decision.
My final recommendation is to consider attending RDH Evolution in April 2018. If you are seeking the opportunity to hang out with like minds, be motivated to make that jump, and have a year-round support team, grab this opportunity. I’ll be waiting for you there.
There’s no better time than now. Get a jump on 2018. It’s time to be inspired!
