Massachusetts Senate adds budget rider that creates advanced dental hygiene practitioners

In Massachusetts, dental hygiene practitioners would be empowered to perform advanced procedures if a Senate budget rider is enacted.

Worcester, Massachusetts, Senator Harriette Chandler filed an amendment to the state's annual spending bill that would designate dental hygienist midlevel providers. The amendment passed 39-0 on a roll call vote.

If enacted, the bay state will join Minnesota and Alaska in creating the advanced practitioners, who would be licensed to perform tooth extractions and certain restorative work, among other procedures.
