Proposals sought for community water fluoridation grants

Feb. 8, 2007
Competitive grants up to $10,000 will be awarded.

CHICAGO--The ADA Foundation is requesting community water fluoridation proposals under its 2007 grant program that is dedicated to expanding access to preventive oral health care.

Titled, "Community Water Fluoridation Infrastructure Grants 2007," the program's primary objective is to fund efforts that initiate and maintain community water fluoridation through purchase of new or replacement fluoridation equipment.

The ADAF will consider proposals up to $10,000 from not-for-profit or publicly funded programs in the United States and its territories. Proposals must be received by March 7.

Consideration of requests will be based upon the two following criteria:

*Purchase of replacement water fluoridation equipment for acid-feed systems only (i.e., metering pumps and feeders) within water systems that serve between 25,000 and 300,000 people.

*Applicants are required to demonstrate the ability to secure matching funds equal to 50% of the amount requested.

According to the ADAF, older systems will receive a higher priority under proposals submitted to replace fluoridation equipment. For new equipment, priority is based on projected implementation date. Additionally, priority will go to states not meeting Healthy People's 2010 objective.
