The NEXT DDS program aims to leverage interactive education as a means of enhancing adjunct learning and connectivity with dental students.

SAN MARCOS, California--Shofu Dental Corporation has partnered with several dental industry manufacturers in the development of The NEXT DDS.

The NEXT DOS is a program intended expressly for dental students and residents. Starting in 2010 and spanning four years, the parties will unveil a Web portal and companion print publication for dental students searching for a credible adjunct to their classroom learning experiences.

"The NEXT DDS will afford Shofu with a valuable opportunity to support the evolving needs of tomorrow's practitioners," said Brian Melonakos, president of Shofu Dental Corporation.

"Shofu is committed to providing dental students with evidence-based articles, interactive tools, and informative resources that enable them to join the work force with greater ease and a heightened understanding of the daily practice of dentistry. We are excited to join with other leading manufacturers in building an environment that will empower dental students for years to come."

The NEXT DDS program will support enrolled dental students from their first year through graduation. The online platform will also foster communication among dental students and residents, connecting the academic and social communities.

Enrolled users will access evidence-based educational resources (e.g., videos, webcasts, blogs) that complement traditional classroom instruction and core curriculum. This will enable interaction and discussion of expanding topics of interest that include clinical techniques and technologies as well as financial, licensure, and practice management.

The NEXT DDS Web platform and mobile computing experience engages this audience by putting learning and student life in the palms of their hands.

Joining Shofu Dental--a leader in the research and development of adhesive dental technologies, ceramic systems and other professional dental products--as founding partner companies within this initiative are Colgate-Palmolive, Coltene/Whaledent, D4D Technologies, DEXIS, Gendex, Henry Schein Financial Services, Henry Schein Practice Solutions, Hu-Friedy, Imaging Sciences International, KaVo Dental, Officite, Pelton & Crane, and Premier Dental.
