It’s called “Letter to the Editor” (or “Letters” if we get more than one at some point), and it’s brought to you this month by the chair of the council on ADA Sessions at the American Dental Association, Dr. Michael M. Blicher, who had a few thoughts on how we’ve been covering national and state dental meetings in this magazine.

Many of you were candid in your interviews with me during the Greater New York Dental Meeting, and I appreciate that. It allowed for an honest observation about trade shows and the business conducted on the show floors. But, as the ADA noted, it may have failed to show just how necessary and beneficial trade shows are to attendees.

That’s probably true. Though we like to spotlight at least one upcoming trade show per issue, we usually focus on the exhibitor experience, which is why “Goliath falling: Huge industry meetings not all that they’re cracked up to be,” the article that inspired the response from the ADA, focused on the needs of the exhibitors. Indeed, I didn’t have any attendee interviews, but I promise to remedy that at the next trade show and give you a more encompassing view of shows in the future. The content of this magazine is not stagnant—it depends on your engagement and your needs, so we appreciate feedback, like the letter from the ADA, to better serve our readers.

As you move past the aforementioned letter, you’ll find in this issue an industry outlook from the dental technology analysts at R.W. Baird & Co., which focuses on the areas where the field will see growth in 2014, as well as some other predictions and observations. You’ll also find an interview with the executive director of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting, and a company spotlight on Darby Dental. As always, we’ve got five new dental products—some of which haven’t hit the market quite yet, but will be available soon, and finally, the most requested content from our readers—Industry Updates.

As we near the one-year anniversary of going digital, we’re still making tweaks here and there to create the best possible reading experience for you and provide you with the information you need.

As they said in a movie once, “We’re all in this together.”
