AACD general session

MADISON, Wisconsin--Attendees of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s annual scientific sessions have come to expect memorable and unique general session speakers. The 2011 session, slated for May 18-21 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Mass., should be no exception.

The AACD has solicited feedback from attendees and believes it knows the three things attendees want in keynote speakers: education, motivation, and entertainment.

The AACD will kick off the conference with Peter Sheahan, author of “Fl!p.” Sheahan, CEO of the Centre for Skills Development, has spent a decade teaching businesses how to flip their thinking.

Real money is made in the cracks, according to Sheahan, and the opportunity for success is all around. The problem is that humans are conditioned by their experience, blinded by business models, and conned by popular media to believe that success is a product of economic conditions, Sheahan said.

Sheahan’s clients include Newscorp, Google, Hilton Hotels, GlaxoSmithKline, Harley Davidson, Cisco, and Goldman Sachs, many of which engage him on an ongoing basis to provoke their leaders to rethink their assumptions and challenge them to find innovative ways of doing business.

Photographer Joel Meyerowitz, creator of the World Trade Center Archive, will follow Sheahan with his presentation. Meyerowitz is known internationally for his work in color photography and view camera artistry. A Guggenheim Fellow and an NEA and NEH award-winner, Meyerowitz was the only photographer to gain unlimited access to Ground Zero after 9/11. In his presentations, he conveys his belief in the transformational power of art.

He reaches beyond photography into the fields of architecture and urban planning, political science, communications, art history, psychology and the meaning of monuments. He tries to inspire audiences to become more involved in their communities and the world at large.

A third general session surprise performance will provide a twist for attendees through fun and entertainment.
