Donations help provide health care to those affected by earthquake and tsunami in Japan, flood in Australia, earthquake in New Zealand, and tornadoes in the United States.

MELVILLE, New York--Henry Schein, a provider of health-care products and services to office-based practitioners, and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, have announced a contribution of more than $375,000 in financial and product donations.

The donations are aimed to help provide health care to those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, flood in Australia, earthquake in New Zealand, and tornadoes in the United States. The Henry Schein Tornadoes Relief Fund, first established in response to the tornadoes that struck the South in April, remains open to provide continued support to other regions of the United States subsequently struck by tornadoes.

The financial donations were made through the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that works to foster, support, and promote dental, medical, and animal health by helping to increase access to care for communities around the world. In addition, financial donations were made directly through Henry Schein Halas and Provet, Henry Schein's dental and animal health businesses in Australia, as well as Henry Schein Shalfoon, Henry Schein's dental business in New Zealand.

These financial donations follow product donations made by Henry Schein Cares earlier through its nongovernmental organization partners, including Direct Relief International, AmeriCares, the American Red Cross, and the ASPCA.

"We are very pleased to offer this disaster relief support as part of our strong commitment to helping dental, medical, and animal health practitioners provide care to patients in need around the world," said Stanley M. Bergman, chairman and chief executive officer of Henry Schein.

"Many of these donations were made to professional associations representing our customers, which are working with nongovernmental organizations and providing essential health care services in affected areas in these four countries. For more than a decade, Henry Schein has been proud to support disaster relief efforts as part of our global mission to increase access to care for underserved and at-risk populations."

Recipients of Henry Schein Cares Foundation support for Japan included the American Dental Association Japan Relief Fund (in support of the Japan Dental Association), the Japan Dental Trade Association, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Northeastern Japan Earthquake Animal Relief and Recovery Fund, and Noah's Wish Saving Animals in Disaster.

In Australia, the recipients included the Australian Veterinary Association Benevolent Fund and the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal. In New Zealand, recipients included the New Zealand Veterinary Association and the New Zealand Dental Association.

In the United States, recipients included the Alabama Dental Association, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, the Missouri Dental Association Foundation's Joplin Tornado Disaster Fund, and the Missouri State Medical Association Health Education Foundation's Joplin Relief Fund.

Because tornadoes, hurricanes, and other devastating storms typically strike many regions of the United States throughout the summer months, the fund will remain open to provide aid for victims of these natural disasters.
