From my travels around the country, there are two things that I know dental assistants love ... Linda Miles and information about salaries and money issues. If that’s you, then you’re going to love this issue of DAD.
I must admit that (like many of you and many of the people in the dental industry) Linda is one of my favorite people in the world. She’s real, genuine, and truly listens to you, no matter how busy she might be or how many people are waiting to talk to her. She’s a great example of how one person can make a difference in the lives of so many.
I had a chance to spend several days recently with Linda at the Speaking Consulting Network (SCN) meeting in Charleston, S.C. It was a great meeting, and everyone there wanted some time with Linda. She was gracious enough to spare a few moments to sit down with DAD’s Dayna Johnson to talk about a problem that many of you face: dentists who either micromanage or have no leadership skills. Linda was also gracious enough to write a short article for me right after SCN about how to ask for a raise when you think it’s time. It’s short and to the point. I hope you’ll read it by clicking here and take her words to heart when the time is right for you to have “the talk.”
My friend (and DAD editorial board member) Tija Hunter adds her own thoughts to the subject of money and raises with her article. Linda and Tija not only share a topic in this month’s issue, they also share a passion for making dental assistants the best they can be. Tija recently realized her dream by helping to start dental assisting schools in Kentucky and Missouri. I’m excited for her, and I’m excited for the dental assistants who will be learning from her.
