Hoping you'll like us on Facebook ... because we already like you

Dental Assisting Digest Editor Kevin Henry talks about the DAD Facebook page and his upcoming lectures on "Battling and Beating the Demons of Dental Assisting."

One of the ways I love communicating with dental assistants around the country is through Dental Assisting Digest’s Facebook page. I mean, come on, you’ve seen it, right? You “like us” on Facebook, right? Of course you do.

Note: If you don’t, I’ll pause for a moment while you click the link and go to our Facebook page and “like us.” Go ahead. I’ll wait.

I recently posted the photo above on our Facebook page and was blown away by the reaction to it. It was by far the most “liked” article of the month, with 24 of you giving it a big Facebook thumbs up. It just proved to me once again how important it is to each of you to work in a practice where you are appreciated and seen as part of the team.

That’s one of the topics I talk about in my lecture called, “Battling and Beating the Demons of Dental Assisting.” Being appreciated and respected for what you do is certainly a sore point for many of the dental assistants I’ve spoken with around the country. All of us long to be appreciated by those who matter to us ... including the people at our place of employment.

As a side note, I’ll be giving my “Demons of Dental Assisting” lecture twice in October — at the Buffalo Niagara Dental Meeting on Oct. 5 and at the ADA Annual Session in San Francisco on Oct. 21. If you’ll be at either one of these meetings, I hope to see you in the audience.

If you don’t have the world’s greatest workplace or boss, take a few moments to read this article by my buddy Lisa Newburger. She has a knack for “telling it like it is,” and she keeps that tradition alive in this month’s article.

This week, I hope you’ll take a few moments to “like us” on Facebook. I also hope you know that we “like you” right back, and believe strongly that you are the backbone of every dental practice in America. You are the ears that listen to a patient’s fears. You are the mouth that can speak a comforting word. You are the eyes that not only see what can be made better in the practice, but also when a patient needs to be reassured about a procedure. You are also the shoulders that carry so many important day-to-day tasks on them.

OK, I admit it; I don’t just like you ... I think you rock. The dental practice couldn’t function without you.
