Honors Presented at AS13 Annual Awards & President's Dinner
The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), through its awards program, formally recognizes private practice prosthodontists whose contributions to the specialty or to the College are outstanding and substantial. Five individuals were recognized on Friday, Oct. 11 during the Annual Session 2013 Annual Awards and President's Dinner. The ACP is proud to announce the following five recipients of its new Private Practice Award:
Region 1—Northeast—Private Practice Award
Dr. Graziano D. Giglio received his D.D.S. degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1987. His postgraduate training in prosthodontics was completed in 1990, also at New York University. Dr. Giglio became a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics in 1992. He is a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, the American College of Dentists, the Greater New York Academy of Dentistry, the Northeastern Gnathological Society, and the New York Academy of Dentistry. Dr. Giglio is an active member of the Academy of Osseointegration and of dentistry's national honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He serves on the board and committees of many dental academies and organizations. Currently, he serves as the President of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics. Dr. Giglio is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of Fixed Prosthodontics in the Jonathan and Maxine Ferencz Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. He conducts a full-time private practice limited to implant dentistry and prosthodontics in New York City. Dr. Giglio has published and lectures frequently on dental implants and aesthetics.
Region 2—Eastern—Private Practice Award
Dr. Thomas J. Balshi is a Temple University trained prosthodontist with nearly forty years of experience in education, research and clinical expertise. His worldwide roster of lectures and his prolific publication of research serve to underscore his innovative prosthodontic skill. Dr. Balshi's passion for dental implant achievements has led to two trademarked protocols, Teeth in a Day™ and No BoneZ Solution™. Among his most prized professional milestones, in addition to his ACP recognition, are his honorary Ph.D. in science from Cabrini College, his United States Army Medal of Commendation, his Freedom's Foundation George Washington Medal of Honor and his recent naming to Temple University's Gallery of Success.
Region 3—Central—Private Practice Award
Dr. Dale L. Cipra attended the University of Illinois before being accepted at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) where he graduated in 1975. Dr. Cipra received his prosthodontic training at the Kansas City V.A. Medical Center and UMKC School of Dentistry, completing the program in 1978. Dr. Cipra taught at the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry for two years before entering the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Residency Program at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas, and received his certificate in 1981. He then served as Director of the Advanced Prosthodontics Residency Program at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry from 1989 to 1996. In 1996, Dr. Cipra made the switch from academia to full time private practice by opening a specialty practice in prosthodontics in Overland Park, Kansas. A member of the ACP since 1976, Dr. Cipra is a board certified prosthodontist dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
Region 4—Rockies/Plains—Private Practice Award
Dr. Nicholas L. Egbert received his Bachelors of Science in Medical Biology at the University of Utah. Fascinated with complex, reconstructive implant dentistry, he pursued a full time three-year residency in Advanced Surgical Prosthodontics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. During his residency, he earned his Masters of Dental Science verifying the accuracy of CT generated implant guides and the efficacy of different bone grafting materials. Dr. Egbert maintains a private practice limited to surgical prosthodontics in Salt Lake City Utah. He is currently the only board certified specialist in the state of Utah providing start-to-finish implant dentistry and currently serves as the president of the Utah College of Prosthodontics.
Region 5—Pacific—Private Practice Award
Dr. David W. Eggleston is a private practitioner in Newport Beach, Calif. He is currently a member of the Board of Councilors at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, and President of the Academy of Prosthodontics Foundation. Dr. Eggleston's previous positions include: President of the American Board of Prosthodontics; President of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP); President of the Academy of Prosthodontics; President of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics; President of the ACP Education Foundation; Chair of the California Dental Association Council on Dental Research and Developments; and Section Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics. Dr. Eggleston is recipient of the American College of Prosthodontists Distinguished Service Award and the ACP Dan Gordon Award, which recognizes Lifetime Achievement.
