Former dental patient holds dental team hostage

Dental team feels lucky to be alive

The dental team of Dr. Gabriel Gonzalez of Montrose, Calif., got the scare of their lives recently. A former patient held the team hostage, and they all feel lucky to have escaped with their lives.

The former patient threatened the team members -- the dentist and two female employees -- with several weapons, and also locked up Dr. Gonzalez for five hours. "I thought I was going to die," the father of three said.

The two female employees were kept busy for several hours making phone calls to cancel appointments. Their captor told them he had nothing to lose after having escaped from prision, so that struck even more fear into the hostages.

They managed to escape, but the captor took cash, a car, and more before being captured.

"I'm grateful to be here, and I'm so grateful to the police," Dr. Gonzalez said.
