Dental Economics announces change in editorial leadership team

June 30, 2014
Starting with the September issue, Chris Salierno, DDS, will be the new chief editor of Dental Economics.

Dental Economics (DE) magazine has announced a change in its editorial leadership. Starting with the September 2014 issue, Chris Salierno, DDS, will be the new chief editor.

“The management of Dental Economics is very excited about this new chapter in the magazine’s evolution,” said DE Publisher Craig Dickson. “We are looking forward to our new future with Dr. Salierno, who brings a diverse background and fresh perspective to the magazine. Dr. Salierno has distinguished himself as a leader among today’s young dentists. As publisher, I am confident we have made the right choice for our readers and for the future of DE.”

Dr. Salierno assumes the chief editor position previously held by Joseph Blaes, DDS, who left DE at the end of June. In 1997, Dr. Blaes became chief editor and shaped the editorial content around practice management, particularly in the area of esthetics. Under his guidance, the magazine became an industry leader. “Dr. Blaes took DE to new heights during his tenure as chief editor,” said Dickson. “We greatly appreciate everything he has done for DE and its readers.”

Dr. Salierno added, "Dr. Blaes has set an incredible standard of excellence for DE, and I hope to continue that tradition for years to come. It is an honor to be selected to this position.”

Over its 104-year history, dentists have turned to Dental Economics for the essential business information they can find nowhere else. Today, dentists find themselves increasingly challenged to meet the business needs of their practices. DE is again evolving to meet those challenges.

Dr. Salierno brings a new practice management perspective based on his startup of a new practice and understanding of the modern dental industry. “DE print and digital readers will see a new level of practical, top-quality information,” Dr. Salierno said.

Dr. Salierno currently practices in Long Island, N.Y., and is co-editor of Surgical-Restorative Resource. While in dental school, Dr. Salierno was the National President of the American Student Dental Association. Today, he continues his advocacy efforts on all levels of the American Dental Association tripartite. On the national level, he has served on the Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs, the Council on Scientific Affairs, and the Council on Dental Accreditation and Licensure. He also serves on the ADA New Dentist Committee, representing New York State. He is a member of the Council on Membership and the New Dentist subcommittee for the New York State Dental Association. Locally, he serves as the President of the Suffolk County Dental Society. Since 2010, he has maintained his blog, The Curious Dentist.
