Illinois dentist chosen American Dental Association Trustee

Robert N. Bitter, DDS, FICD, FACD, an Edwardsville, Ill.-based periodontist, was recently installed as a trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Bitter’s installation took place in San Antonio at the ADA’s 155th Annual Meeting this month.

Dr. Bitter will serve on the ADA Board of Trustees as the trustee from the Eighth District, which encompasses Illinois. The ADA Board formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA’s governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the ADA Board, Dr. Bitter will play a major role in the organization’s objective of being America’s leading advocate for oral health.

Dr. Bitter served as president of the Illinois State Dental Society from 2011 to 2012, after previously holding the positions of president-elect, vice president, secretary and treasurer.

He also served as president of the north suburban branch of the Chicago Dental Society (CDS), as well as in numerous other leadership positions including director, president-elect, treasurer and secretary. He also served as the general chair of the CDS’ Chicago Midwinter Meeting in 2005.

Dr. Bitter is a graduate of Washington University’s School of Dental Medicine. His education also includes a fellowship in general anesthesia and a dental general practice residency at Rush University Medical Center as well as a certificate in periodontics from Northwestern University Dental School.

Dr. Bitter is currently an assistant professor of periodontics at the Southern Illinois University, School of Dental Medicine.
