The “healthiest nation in one generation” concept, as seen in this YouTube video,(1) is our ambition to produce substantive changes in health measures where the U.S. is struggling, especially unacceptable health disparities by race and ethnic groups, states, and even neighboring counties.(2) It is imperative that we change the way our country approaches health.
We need a greater focus on prevention and wellness, not treatment. We need to pay special attention to the large issues that affect health, from poverty to poor housing, education, transportation, and the environment. While it’s important to individually make choices that will improve our own health, we need to make sure everyone in all communities has the opportunity to make those same healthy choices. From eating well and getting regular health care checkups, to supporting efforts that make healthy decisions an easy choice for everyone, this is important for individuals and the community. Join Generation Public Health by signing the pledge. Read the sidebar, then click on Reference No. 3.(3)
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
