Walking around the office searching for a staff member can be inefficient. But intercoms, walkie-talkies, and phone systems have their faults as well. So, what kinds of tech solutions are available for maximizing a practice’s efficiency and productivity? This is a question that was raised by the people at Pacific Computer Sciences LLC (PCS), who, upon answering it, had an idea for their own solution.

Enter DoctorMeow: paging software for health-care providers’ offices that can integrate with tablets, smartphones, computers, Pebble smartwatches, and even existing intercom systems to eliminate the need for more traditional — and more time-consuming — methods of paging or locating staff members.

“We saw a need for an easy way for dentists and office staff to communicate without interfering with their daily activities,” said Josh Vargas, the director of sales and business development for PCS.

Vargas recently told me about how DoctorMeow works. Beginning with installation, it’s simple. First, an office downloads the software onto each of its computers from the DoctorMeow website. Once the software has been installed to the practice’s computers, it can be synced to smartphones, Pebble smartwatches, or tablets, depending on the office’s preferences. According to Vargas, the Pebble smartwatch is the most ideal device for using DoctorMeow, as it allows for the most efficiency by bringing messages directly to recipients’ wrists.

After the software and devices have been paired, the office is set up to begin using DoctorMeow. To send a page to another staff member, a user only needs to open DoctorMeow and select the type of page (e.g., the procedure to be performed), the staff member to be paged, and the level of urgency for the page. The page is then delivered to its recipient with the appropriate visual, audio, and/or silent cues, as determined by the office.

But what about infection control? According to Vargas, staff members would not need to touch their devices to receive, acknowledge, or silence messages. The only times staff members would need to touch their devices would be upon checking the devices in and out of each room. And that’s probably only for now. In the future, PCS expects to update the software with automatic location tracking to further improve ease-of-use.

There’s one more way that the DoctorMeow software is designed to help practices improve efficiency and productivity: analytics reporting.

“While [we were] realizing that dental office communications systems were dated, we also realized that there was no way for dentists [or practice] owners to measure their work. Our analytics module allows an office to view key business intelligence that would not be available otherwise,” said Vargas. With the current version of DoctorMeow, the analytics reporting feature measures patient wait times, frequency of pages per staff member, chair usage, and more.

With its promises to boost productivity and its ability to offer valuable business analytics, DoctorMeow fills a niche in the practice management software market. And if you’re still walking around the office to find your team, it’s likely that DoctorMeow could also fill a need in your practice. Want to learn more, try a demo, or request a quote?
