Integrated Dental Systems (IDS) has announced the introduction of its Smart Dentin Grinder. With the Smart Dentin Grinder, dentists can turn extracted teeth into autogenous bone graft.

Studies have shown that dentin graft from extracted teeth provides the ideal form of graft because human dentin has the same properties as cortical bone. With no risk of disease transmission, total biocompatibility, and no need for a secondary procedure, dentin graft provides higher osseointegration and osteogenic performance and creates a safer outcome for patients.

“Dentists will be able to produce dentin graft material at a fraction of the cost of xenograft, allograft, and synthetic graft, and do so right in their own [offices],” said Carey Lyons, the CEO of IDS.

The use of dentin graft simplifies treatment, shortens chair time, reduces treatment cost, and saves the patient recovery time. As a cell-free mineralized matrix, dentin particles also offer the advantage of maintaining mechanical stability, allowing for early loading after grafting. While the chemical composition of dentin is similar to that of the human bone, dentin is more solid and therefore provides greater stability of the alveolar ridge.
