As dental professionals begin their annual professional efforts to concentrate on preventing oral cancer among their patients, several resources are available for providing evidence-based information about screening procedures and patient education.

For starters, every dental professional should routinely monitor updates at the Oral Cancer Foundation’s website. Every April, of course, is possibly the most active month at the site. Check here for updates in April 2015.

DentistryIQ.com has recently published two articles of interest to dental professionals. Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, shared some startling statistics regarding underestimating the number of deaths due to tobacco in RDH eVillage Focus.

In addition, Dr. Dennis Abbott wrote about “version 2.015” of oral cancer screenings. The article originally appeared in RDH magazine. The CEO of Dental Oncology Professionals advocates “personalized care” when screening patients for signs of oral cancer.

Consumers, of course, will read or hear something related to oral cancer and turn to WebMD for more information. Take a look to see what patients are learning at that website.

Finally, but not necessarily least, the image above can be downloaded here for use as a patient education resource.
