Forward Science Technologies launches chairside test for oral pH

phID, the first standalone oral pH test, is a simple chairside test that allows clinicians to quantify and monitor the oral pH levels of their patients.
After launching OralID, Forward Science Technologies (FST) released a series of diagnostic tests to aid in determining the presence of oral diseases: CytID, an oral swab cytology test; hpvID, an oral swab HPV test; and PathID, an oral biopsy kit. FST’s latest diagnostic product is its chairside oral pH test, phID.

phID, the first standalone oral pH test, is a simple chairside test that allows clinicians to quantify and monitor the oral pH levels of their patients. With this data, clinicians can now quantify each patient’s risk(s).

“What does pH have to do with health? Everything! The missing component to chairside pH testing is finally here. By knowing the pH of our patients saliva, we can determine their buffering capacity as it relates to remineralization [and] increased risk for caries infections, and [we can] optimize treatment recommendations [. . .]” explained OralID representative and oral health advocate, Debbie Z. Sabatini, RDH.

This pH test could change the way clinicians diagnose and treat patients. If a person’s mouth is acidic, that person is prone to tooth decay and has increased levels of bacteria in their mouth, making them prone to gingivitis and loss of teeth. Thus, it is important patients to have their pH levels checked when they see their dentists.
