Ivoclar Vivadent has acquired Dentigenix, Inc., a biotechnology company based in Seattle, Washington. Dentigenix will become the biotechnology research and development arm of Ivoclar Vivadent and will be maintained as a separate company. Operations will take place in both Seattle and Liechtenstein, world headquarters of Ivoclar Vivadent.
"As a leading esthetic restorative materials company, we, with other manufacturers, have historically focused on repairing the tooth using restorative materials," said Robert A. Ganley, Chief Executive Office of Ivoclar Vivadent AG. "However, the possibility to move from restoration to regeneration is within the grasp of dentistry. Through Dentigenix, with its broad portfolio and talented personnel, we intend to bring these opportunities to dentistry."
Dentigenix is dedicated to developing biotechnological solutions for dentistry. Leading the new scientific team will be Dr. Bruce Rutherford, Chief Scientific Officer and world renowned scientist in the area of tissue engineering. Joining Dr. Rutherford and his Seattle-based team will be Ivoclar Vivadent's own Biotechnology Department, which will become part of Dentigenix. The objective of the new team will be to preserve, repair and regrow natural dental tissue. "The combination of Dr. Bruce Rutherford with our own scientific team creates a dynamic foundation for growth," said Dr. Volker Rheinberger, Chief Technology Officer, Ivoclar Vivadent.
Mr. Erick Rabins, a founder of the company, will continue to serve as President. "We are very excited about the acquisition and the future direction of Ivoclar Vivadent," said Mr. Rabins.
