Trade show season is upon us once again. While most people are updating their Facebook statuses and tweeting about pumpkin spice lattes and the benefits of layering clothes for crisp mornings and warm afternoons, you're making travel arrangements — not to see your family or to vacation for your holidays, but to head to New Orleans for Halloween and New York while you're still recovering from Thanksgiving dinner.

We're there with you, so what better way to build up some excitement about the upcoming trade shows than to show you some of the products that are going to be there and share news about the companies that represent them? You can check out the Pride Institute Technology Award winners on page 16 before you see the Pride Institute Technology Expo at the ADA Annual Session on October 3 (for a little preview of that upcoming session, check out page 8). And just in time for one of the biggest dental exhibits of the year, we have another Booth Camp article on getting the most out of your visits with attendees (page 6).

For those of you worried that trade shows still aren't what they used to be, read our interview with Jeff Johnson of R.W. Baird on the state of the dental industry. Hint: It's not too shabby. You may be motivated to dive into the technology demonstrations at the upcoming trade shows after reading some of the positive predictions Mr. Johnson makes. After all, "technology can bust the cycle."

With that in mind, we're focusing on technology and trade shows in this issue, with the inclusion of an interesting article about the "Black Swan" event that will plague dentistry soon (see what I mean by that on page 12).

As always, we have the latest industry news, from company buy-outs to international tradeshows and volunteerism to new hires, so read up on what's going on in your world and build up your talking points for some dental show networking.

I hope you enjoy the October issue of Proofs magazine. Remember — it only gets better from here.
