Dental Hygienist Salary Survey 2014

Difficulty in finding a job as a dental hygienist in West Virginia

Observation: West Virginia was on the low end of responses to the salary survey. Despite the minimum of feedback, it’s apparent that a few think the job market is quite ornery here too, as with most other states.

Length of time since last pay raise in West Virginia

Observation: The 46% who received a raise one to two years ago is 23 percentage points over the national average. Maybe 2014 was an off year for the state’s employers.

Most common hourly pay rates in West Virginia

$25, $28

Observation: The overall range of reported salaries went from $21 to $32, although one dental hygienist reported a rate of $42. The latter, though, is not enough to dissuade us the West Virginia is below the national average for pay.

Descriptions of pay arrangements based on production or commission

  • I am strictly commission. I get 33% of my production, but I have no benefits. I do take all of the X-rays in the office so that goes towards my production total.
  • There is no across the board commission percentage, and we do not receive a commission/percentage of the exam fee.
