10 questions with Staley Rice Crawford, Surgical Solutions Consultant at Henry Schein.
What was your worst job? I’m an avid horseback rider and when I was in middle and high school, I earned extra riding time by working at a barn. I had a lot of tasks but certainly the worst was cleaning out stalls. While I hated doing it, it taught me the value of working hard for something that I loved.

What was a defining moment in your career?
Being 21 years old and walking around the DC Dental Meeting with my resume in my hand. I was eager and persistent, which lead to an opportunity with Henry Schein.

What’s your favorite app or technology to help you get your work done?
I love our Henry Schein app. I love being able to place my orders on the go and get a doctor a quote for something before I even leave the office. It also helps me communicate with my equipment and technology reps. The app streamlines all of my work and helps me keep up with everything.

How do you keep yourself busy or entertained while traveling? (Any specific apps?)
I got married in April and my husband and I are spending our honeymoon in France and Spain. I’ll be using apps to teach myself to speak French and plan our trip.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
I love to get a workout in. Working out helps get me into a great mood that I like to pass on to my customers throughout the day.

How do you keep yourself motivated?
The dental industry is changing rapidly and it’s a very exciting time. Keeping up with new technology and techniques so I can help my customers achieve their practice goals and be on the forefront of dentistry keeps me motivated.

How do you unwind?
I go horseback riding. I get to be outside, enjoying the weather and spending time with my horse. A great ride can turn my entire day around.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Listen more and talk less. The key to bringing value to your customers is listening to and understanding their needs and then tailoring a solution to help them achieve their goals.

What person do you look up to the most in your industry?
I’m a second generation Team Schein member and I truly look up to my dad, FSC Matt Rice. It’s great having a dad that has been in the business and can share his knowledge and experience with me. I hope that 30 years from now, I will be fortunate to have a career like his, with great relationships with my customers and a long track record of success.
