New interactive article on CDC infection control guidelines

Feb. 22, 2017
Now available: An interactive online article based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care (2016).
The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), the Dental Assisting National Board Inc. (DANB), and the DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate, have developed an interactive online article based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care (2016).

This OSAP-DANB-DALE Foundation interactive online continuing education article incorporates CDC’s Summary, which provides basic infection prevention principles and recommendations for dental health-care settings and reaffirms Standard Precautions as the foundation for preventing transmission of infectious agents during patient care in all dental healthcare settings. Also included are links to full guidelines and source documents that readers can reference for more detailed background and recommendations.

The new online article, Understanding CDC’s Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings, allows you to take notes and access a glossary and links to additional related resources to help you understand the information before you take the 20-question assessment. You can read and review the article at your own pace, on your own schedule, for up to six months.

You will earn two CDE credits when you achieve a passing score of 75% on the assessment. You will receive your pass or fail result immediately after completing the assessment, and you can take the assessment more than once if needed. An official learner-specific OSAP-DANB-DALE Foundation Verification of Participation certificate can be downloaded upon successful completion of the post-article assessment.
