WASHINGTON--The American Dental Education Association, funded in part through a Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation grant, has acquired www.explorehealthcareers.org, a free, online health career resource for students and advisors.

The multidisciplinary Web site is a nonprofit, collaborative initiative involving national foundations, professional associations, health career advisors, educational institutions, and college students.

The Web site is a single, comprehensive online resource for prehealth advisors and their students, with information on a wide range of health careers, educational programs, experiential learning opportunities, and financial aid options.

The rich content includes overviews of 76 health careers with academic requirements, accredited programs, and job outlook/salary range; 600+ pre-health enrichment programs; 500+ sources of portable financial aid; profiles of minority health professionals and practitioners working in underserved communities; advice on how to succeed in health professions school; information on current health policy topics; timely articles and useful links.

The acquisition of this unique and important site is another way ADEA is striving to address issues of diversity and access in the education and health care communities.

"The opportunity to manage this great website is a wonderful way for ADEA to expand its efforts to recruit a diverse cadre of talented students into the health professions and educate students about the importance of health careers," said Dr. Kenneth Kalkwarf, ADEA President.

The mission of www.explorehealthcareers.org is to address the underrepresentation of minorities in the workforce and the lack of health professionals in medically underserved communities. The site gives students a free, reliable, and comprehensive source of accurate, up-to-date information about the health professions.

This includes information on and links to health-related education and training programs, financial aid resources, specialized learning opportunities, and current issues in health care.
