Academy of General Dentistry launches Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Program.

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) recently launched a Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition (LLSR) program to formally recognize a member's dedication to remain current in their profession and "give back" to the community.

The LLSR is presented only to qualifying Masters of the AGD. Mastership is
one of the most respected designations in dentistry and is achieved through
a challenging hands-on study in the 16 dental disciplines, totaling in 1,100
hours of continuing education.

Masters who receive this additional recognition will have met the highest
criteria for professional excellence. To receive the prestigious LLSR, a
member must have completed more than 1,600 hours of continuing dental
education in all disciplines of dentistry, including 550 hours dedicated to
hands-on skills and techniques and more than 100 hours of service to the
community.

"The LLSR program allows the AGD to recognize members' achievements beyond Mastership and to promote the value of lifelong learning," says Francis Nasser, Jr., DDS, MAGD, ABGD, and Chair of AGD's Council for Dental
Education. It also encourages members who have achieved Mastership to pursue leadership, volunteerism and mentoring activities.

To receive the LLSR, members must complete and submit an application along with a current AGD transcript and the application fee. Applications are
reviewed quarterly by members of the Council for Dental Education. The
national office will perform a staff review of the application and then
forward copies of each application to a subcommittee of the Council for a
peer review.

Each committee member will independently review and evaluate
each application to ensure the application meets all requirements stated in
the current guidelines. Acceptance or denial will be communicated to
applicants following review of the application by the Council and all
decisions of the Council are final.
