International dental fraternity celebrates 100 years

Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity's centennial year will be marked by dental symposia and banquets held in several select cities around the world.

PRINCETON JUNCTION, New Jersey--The Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, a Jewish voice in dentistry for 100 years, began a yearlong celebration of its centennial year in Las Vegas, Nev., at the fraternity's annual convention.

A traveling exhibit along with a history of the organization was unveiled at the convention in December 2006.

The centennial year will be marked by dental symposia and banquets held in several select cities around the world. The culmination of the yearlong centennial will be at the 2007 annual international convention in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A permanent historical exhibit will be dedicated at Hebrew University, Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, which was founded by the Alpha Omega Fraternity.

Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity was founded in 1907 to combat anti-Semitism in dental education. For the past 100 years, Alpha Omega has been at the forefront of the fight to improve tolerance throughout the world.

It has grown from a small group of dental students in Baltimore and Philadelphia to an organization that has members in more thah 40 cities on six continents. Members have been active in community service and philanthropy locally and internationally and have always stood for professional excellence.

Alpha Omega has accomplished many achievements throughout its 100 years. This includes:

* Founding both the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine at Hebrew University and the Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine at Tel
Aviv University. Alpha Omega continues to provide funds for postgraduate education at both schools.

* Support of Jewish homes for the elderly through volunteer dental services

* Supporting retraining of Soviet dentists in Israel

* Continuing support of community service projects in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Europe, Australia, and Israel

Alpha Omega is proud to claim of the leaders in clinical dentistry, dental education, and dental research among its members.

As Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity enters its next 100 years, Alpha Omegans continue to live by the traditions of their Judaic heritage, encompassing professional excellence, philanthropy, community service, and advocacy for tolerance and inclusion.
