Design and function of Orthoralix 8500 gains distinction.

DES PLAINES, Illinois--The Gendex Orthoralix 8500 recently won its third highly coveted design recognition, the Medical Design Excellence Award.

The annual MDEA competition is the premier awards program for the global medical technology community and a tribute to the manufacturers, engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians responsible for groundbreaking achievements.

Based on the strict criteria set by the MDEA program, the 8500 gained this prestigious award on the panoramic's inventive use of materials, aesthetics, and the design and engineering features that contribute to the product's clinical objectives to improve healthcare delivery and provide enhanced benefits to patients.

The Orthoralix 8500 blends highly stylized components with advanced mechanical technology to appeal to both clinician and patient as user-friendly and ergonomic. The unit produces optimum imaging performance through laser diffraction patient positioning; a single-ended, high frequency DC X-ray source with the smallest focal spot (0.4mm); and morphology-following rotation driven by separate, microprocessor-controlled motors--a feature previously limited to more expensive panoramic systems.

MDEA program judges applauded the 8500's form and function in relation to a range of patients. The adjustable telescopic column accommodates people of all sizes, including children and the wheelchair-bound, so more patients receive the appropriate dental care. The pan unit adapts precisely to the patient's morphology for improved diagnostics, and the ergonomic configuration
assists the dentist, while providing patient comfort.

Since its introduction, the Orthoralix 8500 has not only been capturing clear images, but also other respected awards. In 2005, the Thermoforming Division, Society of Plastics Engineers, bestowed the 8500 with the Parts Competition Award.

This competition honors worldwide innovators in plastics and thermoforming applications. The fabrication process resulted in a durable finish and a clean, efficient, part-to-part fit within the 8500 that merited industry commendation.

Following its market introduction, the Orthoralix 8500 received one of the world's most prestigious design accolades, the GOOD DESIGN in 2004. This recognition is reserved for the most innovative of product and graphic designs.

The 8500 was one of just 15 global medical products selected in this year, and is the only dental panoramic to receive this honor in the organization's
57-year history. This program emphasizes the highest level of form, function, and aesthetics, along with the ideals of product excellence, endurance, and public identity. GOOD DESIGN is an international symbol of a company's firm commitment to innovation and superior design embodiment.
