The award is intended to provide the recipient with educational and clinical experiences reflecting the most current techniques in implant dentistry.

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation recently announced a new fellowship in the area of implant dentistry. The Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery is a $50,000 award intended to provide the recipient with educational and clinical experiences reflecting the most current techniques in implant dentistry. The award is offered through the AAP Foundation and is underwritten by 3i.

"The Lazzara Fellowship supports our future vision for the specialty as a leader in implant dentistry, periodontal medicine, and oral plastic surgery," said Donald S. Clem III, DDS, immediate past president of the Foundation.

The deadline to apply for the Lazzara Fellowship is Feb. 1. Application is limited to students in their third year of periodontal postdoctoral training and must be made jointly by the student and the student's periodontal program director. Students must be in U.S. accredited programs and the 12-month fellowship must take place where the candidate is completing his or her training. The fellowship provides a stipend for the Fellow as well as funds to offset the hosting institution's overhead and adminstrative costs.

Students may obtain an application from their periodontal program director or by calling the AAP Foundation at (800) 282-4867. Downloadable applications are available on the Foundation Web site at www.perio.org/foundation/lazzara.html.
