ROCK HILL, South Carolina--KOMET USA has introduced a new disc/handpiece system designed to be used in cosmetic dentistry and orthodontic procedures for proper interproximal enamel reducing and finishing.
The discs were developed in conjunction with Professor Dr. Jost-Brinkmann of the Berlin Charité Dental Hospital in Germany.
OS (oscillating segment) Discs are safe and efficient for interproximal enamel reduction. OS Discs are 60-degree segmented with a radius of only 1.4 cm and a pivoting angle of 30 degrees. This allows access into tight spaces with excellent user control.
The OS Discs are more effective than manual enamel reduction with little risk of injuring the soft tissue. OS Discs allows enough vision for the user without the need of a disc guard and provides optimal chip removal.
The OS Discs are designed to be used in the oscillating KOMET electric handpiece OS30. When using the micro-motor at full capacity, an effective performance of 5,000 oscillations per minute is reached. It is also possible to use the OS30 in an air motor, and at the motor's maximum capacity, an effective performance of 2,500 oscillations per minutes can be reached.
Before using OS Discs, KOMET USA recommends eliminating the interdental contact with a honeycomb-designed diamond strip. Afterward, the user must guide the OS Discs from the occlusal side through the contact point in a slow, but continuous movement for maximum efficiency.
KOMET USA developed 15 different OS Discs to be used with the OS30 handpiece--nine with fine-grit diamonds and six with medium-grit diamonds. Out of the 15 discs, eight are one-sided and seven are two-sided. They come in various thicknesses (0.13 mm to 0.45 mm).
