Hoffman Estates, IL— NSK Dental LLC announced the U.S. launch of Ti-Max Z45L, the world’s first 45-degree electric (contra-angle) dental handpiece.
The Ti-Max Z45L provides effortless access to hard-to-reach molars that a standard contra-angle cannot match. The slim design offers excellent visibility and high operability, creating more space between the handpiece’s body and front and adjacent teeth. In addition, the Ti-Max Z45L’s powerful and consistent cutting shortens treatment time for sectioning and third-molar extractions, dramatically reducing stress for both clinicians and patients.
The Ti-Max Z45L offers the world’s first two-way spray function — the water jet spray option prevents subcutaneous emphysema, while the mist spray option effectively cools the bur while cutting. This unique dual feature makies it suitable for a wide range of procedures such as third-molar preparation and clarifications of the root canal orifice. The spray mode is changed via a small switch on the base of the handpiece using a small flat-head screwdriver tool that is included.

“Our company is committed to designing and manufacturing handpieces that enhance dentistry and the patient experience," said Rob Gochoel, sales and marketing director for NSK Dental. "To that end, our new Ti-Max Z45L delivers an unprecedented combination of accessibility, visibility, safety and durability. Clinicians will greatly appreciate the ability to effortlessly access third molars, second premolars, or any other teeth requiring treatment. They will particularly love the convenience and effectiveness of the two-way spray feature. While there are some 45-degree air-driven handpieces on the market, the Ti-Max Z45L is the world’s first and only 45-degree electric handpiece."
This breakthrough handpiece also incorporates several popular innovations featured in many of NSK’s bestselling handpieces. NSK’s Clean Head System, which automatically prevents the entry of oral fluids and other contaminants into the handpiece head, prolongs the life of the bearings. DURACOAT®, NSK’s latest surface enhancement technology, takes advantage of the non-allergic and biocompatible properties of titanium to further improve durability while creating a smooth, scratch resistant, comfortable surface. The company’s unique head cap design helps to limit heat generation as well as disperse it during treatment.
The Ti-Max Z45L is versatile, handling burs ranging in length from 20 mm to 25 mm. Its ceramic bearings are 25% harder than conventional steel bearings but only half the weight; this significantly reduces the frictional wear between the ball bearings and the bearing retainer, thereby increasing both efficiency and durability. The handpiece’s body is made of titanium, which is 30% lighter than stainless steel, more durable and corrosion resistant.
