Search for oldest X-ray machines highlights anniversary

Sirona Dental Systems celebrates 100 years of dental X-ray imaging with special promotion.

Sirona Dental Systems is celebrating 100 years of innovation in dental x-ray imaging with a nationwide contest. The world's only full-line dental equipment manufacturer is challenging dentists to reveal the oldest x-ray machines currently in operation in the US.

All doctors who enter the contest to find the oldest machine will receive an
entry in a drawing for a new ORTHOPHOS XG digital panoramic imaging system, compliments of Sirona.

"With our long history of delivering innovative dental technology, we felt
this contest was the perfect way to celebrate a century of x-ray leadership," said John Smithson, Director of Marketing - Imaging. "What better way to share our excitement for new technology, than by taking a look back. We think it will be interesting for everyone to see how far we have come since the early days of dental x-ray."

In 1905, Sirona (then named RGS/Halske - a predecessor of Siemens and thus Sirona) introduced Rekord the world's first commercially available intraoral X-ray unit. In the following 100 years, Sirona has led the industry with many X-ray and imaging firsts - including the first Panoramic imaging unit, the ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH in 1961 and the first digital Pan/Ceph X-ray unit, The ORTHOPHOS PLUS DS CEPH in 1996.

The company remains at the forefront of imaging evolution, as is evident by the unprecedented acceptance worldwide of the ORTHOPHOS XG product line. More than 500 units have been installed since its introduction in fall 2004.

The contest kicks off May 1 and concludes December 31. To participate, dentists need to complete the entry form at ww.Sirona100.com or call 800-659-5977 for details on how to submit an entry. Participating dentists must submit make, model and serial number of their x-ray equipment along with their contact information. They also must submit proof that the unit is currently in operation.

All submissions will be entered in the drawing for the grand prize - a free Sirona ORTHOPHOS XG 5 PAN (Valued at $45,995). The drawing will be held at the Chicago Mid Winter Meeting in February 2006. There will be 5 additional second prizes of $2,500 credit vouchers toward the purchase of a new ORTHOPHOS XG Pan that will be awarded in the drawing.

A $2,500 credit voucher toward the purchase of a new ORTHOPHOS XG Pan will be awarded to both the owner of the oldest panoramic unit in operation and the owner of the oldest Intraoral X-ray unit in operation.
