State association praises 20-year volunteer.

Seattle dental hygienist Patty Doyle became the first recipient of the American Lung Association's Astrid Berg Lifetime Achievement Award on Sept. 22. The American Lung Association of Washington honored Doyle at its Centennial Champions Celebration, which recognized "outstanding voluntary service," in Tacoma.

Doyle is widely recognized for her 20-year support of the association's annual bike ride, "Trek Tri-Island." Her personal fundraising efforts netted more than $50,000, but Doyle's year-round efforts as a volunteer were also praised.

"Patty's dedication to our mission is inspirational," said Marina Cofer-Wildsmith, who is the CEO of the American Lung Association of Washington. "We are honored that Patty has chosen to spend her voluntary time with our organization in promoting lung health and preventing lung disease by her actions and fundraising."
