HOUSTON, Texas--OrthoAccel Technologies has announced entering into a partnership with AB Orthodontics, an Australian orthodontic supplies company, to introduce the AcceleDent System to the Australian market.
AcceleDent, an acceleration device to enhance orthodontics, was introduced to the United Kingdom last year. Results from the first clinical trial were recently highlighted in Orthodontic Practice US, a new industry publication.
This study demonstrated increased rates of tooth movement as a result of using AcceleDent for 20 minutes daily. The device was also well tolerated by study patients, who reported increasingly favorable satisfaction scores during the course of treatment.
Mike Kaufman, vice president of marketing and business development at OrthoAccel, noted the importance of the Australian market to the company's strategic plans.
"Attending the Seventh International Orthodontic Congress earlier this year in Sydney provided us a first-hand opportunity to experience the Australian orthodontic market and meet many of the key opinion leaders," he said. "AB Orthodontics has a long and successful track record introducing innovative orthodontic products and with Andrew and his team we believe we have found the ideal long-term partner for the Australian and New Zealand markets."
OrthoAccel received TGA clearance late in 2009 to commercialize AcceleDent in Australia, and attended the World Federation of Orthodontists Seventh International Orthodontic Conference in Sydney earlier in 2010.
AB Orthodontics has been serving the Australian orthodontic market for more than 30 years.
"AcceleDent represents an innovative opportunity for orthodontists to explore greater efficiencies through the possibility of faster case finishing, as well as truly position the practice as a full-service clinic with the latest treatment technology," said Andrew Binns, managing director of AB Orthodontics.
In May 2010, AcceleDent was recognized with a Bronze Award at the 23rd Annual Excellence in Design competition in the Medical, Laboratory, & Test Equipment category.
OrthoAccel anticipates the conclusion of another U.S. clinical trial at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio with a target completion date later in 2010.
