A dentist who had been working in a VA clinic in Tomah, Wisconsin, has resigned after being accused of endangering hundreds of veterans through improper infection control procedures. The name of the dentist has not been released.

According to reports, after being properly oriented on the clinic’s infection control procedures, the dentist chose to use his own equipment and ignore sterilization procedures.

A local Wisconsin news station says that the VA “is currently offering free screenings for nearly 600 veterans who were treated by the dentist from October of last year to October of this year. So far, more than 200 of the impacted veterans have contacted the VA and about 60 have been tested.” At press time, no infections had been reported.
