GUILFORD, Connecticut--Defibtech has been named to the Connecticut Technology Council's inaugural UHY LLP Tech Top 40, a celebration of Connecticut's 40 fastest-growing companies.
Defibtech was one of the five fastest-growing companies in the program's life sciences category. Last year, Defibtech was named the No. 1 fastest-growing technology company in Connecticut and the seventh fastest-growing technology company in North America by Deloitte & Touche--one of the nation's leading professional services organizations.
Defibtech designs and manufactures automated external defibrillators, which can revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Health experts estimate that sudden cardiac arrest kills more than 325,000 people each year in the United States alone.
Defibtech's president Gintaras Vaisnys co-founded the company with fellow Yale graduate, cardiac surgeon Dr. Glenn W. Laub, the company's CEO.
"Our goal from the start was to design and manufacture an AED that's affordable and easy to use," Vaisnys said. "By achieving this goal, we have made thousands of our AEDs ready and available to save lives."
Defibtech's Lifeline and ReviveR defibrillators can be found in public access areas, workplaces, police and fire vehicles, schools and churches, health clubs, and other locations.
The Defibtech AED's audible voice prompts, which guide users during rescues, are available in 13 different languages. Defibtech AEDs have been deployed in more than 25 countries--the United States, Canada, China, India, Australia, and other nations in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa.
A few weeks ago, Defibtech won its third Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Innovation Prize. CQIA recognized two Defibtech AED training devices: the stand-alone trainer AED and the training kit, which allows a Defibtech AED to be converted into an AED training device.
The Defibtech AED's outstanding design was recognized by The Museum of Modern Art in New York, which selected the Lifeline to be in its "SAFE: Design Takes On Risk" exhibit.
The Defibtech AED also received the Medical Design Excellence Award, presented by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine, and the Industrial Design Excellence Award, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week magazine.
