James H. Sweeney, chief executive officer of the American Dental Association's for-profit subsidiary, ADA Business Enterprises, Inc. (ADABEI), is retiring from the ADA after more than 25 years of service, effective August 1, 2004.
"We are grateful to Jim for his many years of service and dedication to the ADA and its members," said James B. Bramson, D.D.S., ADA executive director. "His contributions and initiatives have helped propel the ADA's Annual Session and member services to the forefront of professional organizations."
His accomplishments include developing and introducing the ADA's first incoming call center; developing, negotiating and directing the first ADA credit card program; and growing the ADA's Annual Session into the dental profession's premier event.
Sweeney, who joined the ADA from the California Dental Association, has served in several senior management capacities with the association or its subsidiary companies, including president and chief executive officer, ADA Financial Services Company, Inc., an ADA subsidiary.
He also served as group associate executive director for Conference and Meeting Services and Subsidiary Business Development; associate executive director for Conference and Meeting Services; and assistant executive director, Membership Services.
Sweeney is the recipient of two Gold Circle Awards and the Diamond Award for Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives. He also earned the Professional Convention Management Associations' Wizard Award for innovation and creativity in the meetings industry.
